Mongol

The trailer was cleverly made. I imagine a movie filled with wars and some small stories tucked along the film. Remember how Gengis Khan described in Night at The Museum - Shawn Levy as a barbarian who love to torture his hostages but actually being so lonely in his childhood (and ended up crying on Ben Stiller shoulders)…well, never occured to me that those line were ‘in a way is actually a summary’ of Gengis Khan’s potrait of life. Even though Sergei Bodrov never let any frame showing a slight image of Khan’s harsh personality, the way of Mongolian life and their culture he put on screen had explained so much more.

The view of vast land with no trees or other vertical covers, surely make me wonder what kind of life, with no protector nor friends, one can probably have. The obstacle of landscape, of climate and of man, every aspects of it interwove smoothly in the background scenary, stories and short conversations among the actors.

With many stories and movies focusing on Khan’s cruelty and dark side of him maybe become one reason why Sergei Bodrov choose to only give the best character of him on spotlight. Though performing one side of a hero isn’t always a safe plot for me, I would say he had made a good one on Mongol. At many points, we need to be remind, that in every action, there’s always a reason, a valley before a mountain…the question is, how persistence you will be to survive?
